‘I Challenge Burna Boy to Fight Me’ — Speed Darlington Calls for Boxing Bout
Nigerian singer and entertainer Speed Darlington, popularly known as Akpi, has challenged Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy to a boxing match.
Darlington made the challenge during a recent interview with Hip TV, where he claimed he could defeat Burna Boy in a physical contest and offered to stake a huge amount of money on the proposed fight.
“I challenge Burna Boy to fight me. I will drop a huge sum just to fight him. I want to fight him. I will beat him. He’s all hype. He can’t beat me. Just because some people like his music doesn’t mean he can beat me. I am challenging him,” he said.
The challenge comes amid the long-running public feud between the two entertainers, which began with Speed Darlington’s controversial comments about Burna Boy in 2024. The dispute later escalated after Burna Boy’s camp took legal action against him, leading to his arrest and detention.
The latest development also follows Speed Darlington’s previous celebrity boxing match with Portable in April 2025. Portable was declared the winner after Darlington failed to get back on his feet in the second round. Burna Boy subsequently gifted Portable ₦20 million, according to Premium Times.
Darlington’s latest challenge appears to be aimed directly at Burna Boy, with the entertainer insisting that the singer’s popularity and musical achievements would not give him an advantage inside the ring.
However, there is no indication that Burna Boy has accepted the proposed bout. Reports published on Monday said the Grammy-winning singer had yet to publicly respond to the challenge.
The proposed fight has nevertheless renewed interest in the pair’s long-running rivalry, with fans likely to watch closely for Burna Boy’s response.
