Odogwu Asaba Trial: Five Witnesses, Video Evidence Presented in Court
The trial of content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, over allegations of rape and manslaughter in connection with the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro continued at the Delta State High Court in Asaba on Wednesday, with the prosecution bringing five witnesses and video evidence before the court.
The witnesses included Agbro’s twin sister, brother and father, as well as the doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination and an investigating police officer (IPO).
However, defence counsel requested more time to study the statements on oath of the prosecution witnesses and examine the additional evidence presented in court in preparation for the defence.
Speaking after the proceedings, the prosecution said it was ready to proceed with the case but acknowledged the need to give the defence adequate time to review the materials and prepare its response.
The prosecution team was led by Delta State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, alongside the Director of Public Prosecutions, Tejiri Anuhwin. Other members included principal state counsels Ugochukwu Okolotu and Funkekeme Solomon Junior, pupil state counsel Faith Beluchukwu, and Awele Ideal, counsel to the nominal complainant.
Ogbonna pleaded not guilty to the charges on October 21, 2026, before Justice Michael Nduka Obi of the Delta State High Court in Asaba. The charges relate to the death of Agbro in June 2026.
The case was adjourned until November 19, 2026, for continuation of the trial, when the prosecution is expected to proceed with its witnesses and evidence. Ogbonna remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
