Chris Brown Gets 8-Month Suspended Prison Sentence in UK
US singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence in the United Kingdom over an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in February 2023.
Brown, 37, was sentenced on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to affray in July. The sentence was suspended for 12 months, meaning he will not serve immediate prison time.
The case relates to an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, central London, in which Brown struck Diaw over the head with a glass tequila bottle. Prosecutors said the attack was captured on CCTV footage and left the music producer with head and knee injuries.
According to the UK Crown Prosecution Service, Brown’s vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray over his involvement in the incident. Akinlolu was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner described the attack as dangerous, warning that the use of a glass bottle against someone’s head could have resulted in more serious injuries.
Brown was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 after returning to the UK for a concert. He had faced a possible prison term of up to three years before pleading guilty to the affray charge.
The sentencing concludes the criminal proceedings over the 2023 nightclub incident, although Brown’s suspended sentence means he has avoided immediate imprisonment.
