Daniel Etim-Effiong Defends Kissing Scenes in Nollywood Movies
Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has questioned critics who challenge actors over kissing scenes in movies, asking whether they would raise similar concerns with a gynaecologist who examines female patients as part of their profession.
The actor’s comment comes amid continued public debate over his frequent romantic roles and on-screen kissing scenes.
“Would you ask this same question to a gynaecologist who takes care and looks at female g£nitals everyday?” Etim-Effiong asked.
His remarks have reignited discussions about the boundaries between an actor’s professional responsibilities and personal life, particularly for married actors who portray romantic relationships on screen.
Etim-Effiong has previously addressed criticism of his kissing scenes, explaining that romantic roles are part of his work and that such scenes are often included because of audience demand and what producers believe sells.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds, the actor said producers often rely on familiar portrayals of intimacy but argued that filmmakers could explore other ways of expressing affection.
The debate intensified after his kissing scenes with actress Bolaji Ogunmola in Summer Rain attracted widespread attention and mixed reactions online. More recently, public discussions around his intimate scenes have continued following his appearance in Blood Sisters 2.
Etim-Effiong has maintained that his approach to such roles is professional, while his wife, Toyosi Etim-Effiong, has also publicly defended his on-screen romantic roles.
