BREAKING: Reps Pass State Police Bill with 289 Votes
The House of Representatives has reportedly passed the State Police Bill following a decisive vote during plenary on the legislative proposal.
According to proceedings in the chamber, a total of 289 lawmakers supported the bill, while four members voted against it.
The vote was conducted after the House earlier resolved that the process would be carried out manually during consideration of key legislative items.
In total, 290 members were present at plenary for the day’s legislative business when the decision was taken.
The bill, which seeks to establish a state-level policing structure across Nigeria, remains one of the most closely watched security reform proposals before the National Assembly.
Further legislative steps are expected as part of the constitutional amendment process.
