2027: Delta APC Pledges No Rigging, Warns Against Political Violence
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged not to engage in electoral rigging ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying it will campaign on the performance of its candidates while warning political actors against violence.
Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Charles Aniagwu, made the declaration on Monday while unveiling members of the committee to journalists in Asaba.
“We will not get involved in rigging elections. We will show our report card,” Aniagwu said, expressing confidence that the performance of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would help the party seek re-election.
He said the APC would focus its campaign on the policies, programmes and achievements of the federal and state governments, adding that the committee would work with journalists to provide voters with accurate information about the party’s candidates.
Aniagwu named Valentine Onojeguo as vice chairman of the committee, Timi Tonye as secretary, and Festus Ahon, Kelly Okolugbo and Jackson Ekwugum as members.
He said the committee’s responsibility would cover all APC candidates contesting elections into the Delta State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives and the Senate, in addition to the presidential and governorship campaigns.
“We will stay with the issues,” he said, urging journalists to partner with the committee in communicating the party’s message to the electorate.
The APC spokesman also cautioned political leaders and their supporters against inflammatory statements that could trigger attacks, reprisals or violence at polling units as the election season approaches.
He stressed that the state government would not tolerate violence, regardless of political affiliation.
“The governor has warned earlier that nobody is above the law. We will not tolerate violence, irrespective of the divide anybody belongs to,” Aniagwu said.
He urged residents to report alleged electoral offences to security agencies rather than resort to self-help or jungle justice.
“We are not in a jungle republic. If there is anybody carrying out an action you consider not to be in line with the electoral guidelines, that is why we have the security agencies. Report them and let the law take its course,” he said.
Aniagwu added that the APC would explain the policies and reforms of the federal and state governments, expressing optimism that their performance would persuade voters to support the party in 2027.
