NELFUND Announces Second Extension for 2025/2026 Student Loan Applications
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has again extended the application window for its student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session, providing additional time for eligible students across Nigeria to complete their submissions.
The development comes weeks after the Fund earlier extended the deadline following a surge in nationwide interest and applications for the programme.
NELFUND announced the latest extension in a statement released on their x account, explaining that the decision was taken to accommodate institutions that requested extra time for their students to complete the application process.
The statement read: “The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has approved an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal for institutions that have formally requested additional time for the 2025/2026 academic session.”
Speaking on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to ensuring that qualified students can benefit from the scheme.
“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme.”
The Fund urged students in affected institutions to take advantage of the extension and complete their applications through the official NELFUND portal.
The student loan initiative, introduced under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, provides interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions to cover tuition and other academic expenses, with repayment expected after graduation and employment.
