Oborevwori Orders Permanent Repairs on Agbarho Road
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to deliver a permanent, lasting engineering solution to the washed-out section of the East-West Road at Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The directive comes after six consecutive days of torrential downpours caused a massive rush of surface runoff from surrounding communities, generating immense hydraulic pressure that ultimately undermined and collapsed a critical segment of the highway.
Inspecting the damaged site alongside the Regional Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Fredrick Wieser, Ughelli North Council Chairman Olorogun Jaro Egbo, and NEXIM Bank Executive Director Hon. Stella Okotete, Governor Oborevwori praised the construction firm for its rapid response to the emergency call.
While acknowledging the immediate frustration and hardship experienced by commuters and residents, the Governor assured the public that two-lane access would be temporarily restored shortly, with the Delta State Government stepping in to fully fund all permanent remedial works required to prevent a recurrence.
Technical assessments are already underway to determine the structural design best suited to withstand future rainfall and high water volumes.
According to Julius Berger’s Regional Manager, Fredrick Wieser, field teams are conducting comprehensive hydrological studies and surveys to choose between constructing a mini-bridge or installing a high-capacity multi-cell culvert featuring three to four cells.
Emphasizing the strategic importance of the corridor, Governor Oborevwori highlighted that the East-West Road serves as the primary economic lifeline linking Delta State to Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to public welfare, the Governor called for empathy during infrastructure emergencies and urged political actors to refrain from exploiting public hardship for partisan gain, reiterating that his government remains focused solely on delivering meaningful service and lasting development across the state.
