Urhobo-DESOPADEC Rep. Ovbije Distributes Chairs, Desks to Schools in Ethiope East
The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has commenced the distribution of chairs and desks to public schools in Ethiope East Local Government Area as part of efforts to improve the learning environment in oil-producing communities.
The distribution exercise was carried out on Thursday, March 12, 2026, by the member representing the Urhobo nationality on the DESOPADEC Board, Sylvester Ovbije.
Ovbije was represented during the exercise by his Personal Assistant, Francis Voke, who said the initiative is part of the commission’s annual intervention programme aimed at supporting schools within its mandate areas.
Speaking to DESOPADEC Media, Voke explained that the distribution of desks and chairs was designed to address the shortage of classroom furniture and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils and students.
He noted that the commission remains committed to expanding educational support in oil-producing communities across Delta State.

Voke added that DESOPADEC is aligning its programmes with the development agenda of the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly the administration’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises development in critical sectors including education.
He also urged residents of the state to continue supporting the governor’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections in order to sustain development initiatives in oil-producing communities.
Schools that benefitted from the distribution expressed appreciation to the commission for the timely intervention.
The Head Teacher of Anuagba Primary School, Emuobonuvie Edafiono, thanked DESOPADEC and the Delta State Government for the gesture.
According to her, the intervention will greatly improve the learning environment for pupils in the school. “We thank DESOPADEC and our able governor for this laudable intervention. May God guide him and the commission,” she said.
Similarly, the Headmaster of Eku Baptist Hospital Staff Primary School, Idegho Waniko Alex, said the school had previously faced a significant shortage of classroom furniture.
