Lionel Messi Officially Acquires Spanish Club CD Eldense
In a historic milestone for Spanish football, century-old club CD Eldense has officially announced its acquisition by Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, who becomes the majority shareholder of the Segunda División outfit.
The official takeover marks the beginning of an ambitious long-term venture for the Alicante-based club, which was founded in 1921. Messi’s arrival as the primary investor aims to strengthen CD Eldense’s sporting, institutional, and social infrastructure, firmly establishing the team in Spanish professional football while preserving its historic blue-and-maroon identity (Azulgrana).
According to an official statement issued by CD Eldense on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the deal has reached its final administrative stage. The formal transaction now awaits mandatory ratification from Spain’s Higher Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes – CSD) in accordance with current Spanish Sports Law regulations.
The acquisition sees Messi acquire 100 per cent of the shares previously held by TH Soluciones Group SAS, completing a seamless ownership transition aimed at driving long-term stability and competitiveness on the pitch.
“The arrival of Leo Messi as majority shareholder represents an ambitious plan with a long-term vision. The main goal will be to strengthen the club’s sporting, institutional, and social development while respecting its century-old heritage,” the club stated.
The purchase of CD Eldense further broadens Lionel Messi’s expanding portfolio in global sports ownership. Earlier in April 2026, the Inter Miami star acquired fifth-tier Spanish side UE Cornellà, alongside his co-ownership stake in MLS club Inter Miami CF and partnerships in Latin American sports ventures.
By taking control of CD Eldense, currently competing in Spain’s second tier, Messi establishes a direct foothold in European professional league structures. The move is expected to attract significant international commercial interest, broadcasting revenue, and sponsorship opportunities to the city of Elda and the broader Valencian community.
