Super Falcons Touch Down in Abuja with 10th WAFCON Trophy

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have returned home to a hero’s welcome after clinching their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
The team landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on a chartered flight, where they were greeted by jubilant fans and top government officials.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hanatu Musawa, and Minister for Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, were among the dignitaries who welcomed the team.
The Falcons are expected to parade the WAFCON trophy in an open-top bus across Abuja before heading to the Presidential Villa for a reception with President Bola Tinubu.
In a thrilling final, the Super Falcons made history by coming from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2. Okoronkwo’s penalty kick in the 63rd minute sparked a remarkable comeback, with Ijamilusi equalizing eight minutes later and Echegini scoring the winning goal in the 88th minute.
This win maintains Nigeria’s perfect record in WAFCON finals, with 10 wins in 10 appearances. The Super Falcons have cemented their legacy as the most successful women’s national team in Africa.
