Super Falcons Captain Ajibade to Undergo Ankle Surgery in Paris
Super Falcons captain and Paris Saint-Germain forward Rasheedat Ajibade is scheduled to undergo ankle surgery in France on Friday following a fracture sustained during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The 26-year-old forward was stretchered off in the 23rd minute after landing heavily on her right foot during a collision with Comoros defender Diore Miriame Kaina Said. An MRI scan subsequently confirmed a right ankle fracture. Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Head of Communications, Ademola Olajire, confirmed that Ajibade will undergo surgery in Paris on Friday.
The injury poses a significant setback for both Nigeria and PSG. Ajibade is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of 2026, potentially missing crucial UEFA Women’s Champions League fixtures and Nigeria’s upcoming international matches.
Breaking her silence via social media on Thursday, Ajibade reassured fans, saying: “To everyone who reached out with messages, prayers, and kind words, thank you from the bottom of my heart. For now, my focus is on recovery and returning stronger for club and country.” Despite the setback, Nigeria secured a 7-0 aggregate victory to advance to the third round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers against Morocco.
