Delta EXCO Approves ₦3.7B Grant for 15,000 Indigent Citizens

As part of targeted efforts to cushion economic hardship and stimulate grassroots micro-economies, the Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved a massive ₦3.75 billion empowerment package aimed at indigent residents across the state.

Under the scheme, no fewer than 15,000 indigent persons drawn from all 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State will receive a one-off cash grant of ₦250,000 each, bringing the total direct empowerment package to ₦3.75 billion.

The state government stated that the disbursement is designed to help beneficiaries enhance purchasing power, support micro-business owners, enable capital expansion for existing trades, and assist unemployed individuals in kickstarting small enterprises.

In addition to the cash grant, business empowerment trainings will be conducted for beneficiaries across the three senatorial districts to equip them with the necessary skills to manage and grow their businesses effectively.

To ensure orderly distribution and safeguard public funds, comprehensive security measures and verification protocols will be maintained across every Local Government Area during the exercise.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori stressed that the selection process will be strictly audited to prevent fraud or diversion, warning that the state will tolerate no “voodoo beneficiaries” on the list and that every recipient must be a physical, verifiable resident who genuinely requires support.

Selection across all 25 Local Government Areas will target genuine indigent residents. In line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, this intervention delivers direct economic support where it is needed most at the grassroots level.
