Independence Day: FG Declares Thursday, October 1 Public Holiday

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement released in Abuja on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Congratulating Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora on reaching the 66-year milestone, Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to remain patriotic, united, and committed to peaceful coexistence. He emphasized that national peace and stability remain vital prerequisites for economic progress and sustainable development.
