Ezebri Demands Fairness in Delta APC Chairmanship Race
A Delta State chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebiakpo Ezebri, has raised concerns over what he described as the alleged imposition of the party’s state chairmanship position amid ongoing congresses in the state.
In a press statement, Ezebri alleged that the party’s state chairmanship position was zoned to Delta South and handed to a former Delta PDP Chairman “allegedly at the instance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,” contrary to earlier agreements reached by party leaders and stakeholders.
“As an aspirant in this process, I consider it necessary to respectfully draw the attention of party leaders and members to what I believe are clear departures from the principles of fairness, internal democracy, and due process,” he stated.
He noted that party congresses are meant to reflect the strength, unity, and democratic character of the APC, adding that stakeholders had reportedly agreed on a zoning and consensus framework to ensure inclusiveness and balance.
“However, the recent developments suggest a shift from consensus to imposition, with key decisions allegedly taken without broad consultation, including among aspirants who have fulfilled all constitutional requirements to contest,” he said.
Ezebri disclosed that he purchased his nomination form for ₦1,050,000, paid all requisite party dues, and has remained loyal and committed to the APC.
“It is particularly troubling that meetings were reportedly convened and decisions taken on matters directly affecting aspirants without inviting or consulting all concerned parties,” he added.
Declaring that he is “not driven by desperation but by principle,” Ezebri maintained that internal democracy is the lifeblood of any political party.
“Power is transient, but the consequences of injustice can endure. I urge all leaders involved to reflect deeply and ensure that the process is corrected in line with the party’s constitution and the spirit of equity and fairness,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and insisted on his right to participate in what he described as a free, fair, and transparent process.
