Uduaghan: Oborevwori Recalls Former Governor’s Support, Says His Legacy Will Endure
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid a condolence visit to the family of former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing the late statesman as a former boss whose support played a significant role in his political journey.
Oborevwori said Uduaghan’s contributions to Delta State would remain indelible, assuring that his legacy would not be forgotten by the people.
The governor, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and top government functionaries, visited the deceased former governor’s family following his death on Monday at the age of 71.
During the visit, Oborevwori offered condolences to Uduaghan’s widow, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, and other family members, saying the large number of people who gathered to mourn the former governor reflected the impact he had made through his years of public service.
Recalling their relationship, the governor described Uduaghan as a former boss who gave him an important political opportunity in 2007.
“He was my boss. He gave me the highest political appointment, Special Adviser, in 2007. That is something that really touches my heart. You are all aware that he supported me throughout this journey,” Oborevwori said.
He described the late governor as a calm, articulate and thoughtful leader whose contributions to the development of Delta State would continue to be remembered.
Oborevwori Highlights Asaba Airport Legacy
The governor particularly praised Uduaghan for establishing Asaba International Airport, describing the facility as one of his enduring contributions to the state.
According to Oborevwori, Uduaghan’s decision to execute development projects beyond narrow ethnic considerations demonstrated his commitment to the overall progress of Delta State.
He said his administration remained committed to preserving worthwhile projects inherited from previous governments while improving existing infrastructure where necessary.
Oborevwori cited the ongoing modification of the Effurun Roundabout Flyover as an example of efforts to sustain and improve infrastructure developed under previous administrations.
“He has gone, but he can never be forgotten by Deltans,” the governor said.
Governor Signs Condolence Register
Before the condolence visit, Oborevwori had joined family members and other dignitaries, including Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode, and former Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, to receive the former governor’s remains at Osubi Airport.
He also signed the condolence register, expressing sadness over the death and extending his sympathies to the bereaved family and the people of Delta State.
In his tribute, the governor wrote:
“I am saddened by the demise of the former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. He was a great boss. I commiserate with his beloved wife, children, family members and Deltans over this great loss.
“May God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Your impact in Delta can never be forgotten. Asamaigor, RIP.”
Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
