UNIBEN Bans Sign-Out Celebrations, Warns of Expulsion for Violators
The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced a total ban on all forms of sign-out celebrations by graduating students, warning that any violation will attract severe disciplinary sanctions, including withdrawal of certificates, rustication, and expulsion.
The directive, contained in a circular signed by the Registrar, A.A. Bobola, and dated October 6, 2025, was addressed to members of the university community.
According to the circular, the university management reaffirmed its earlier position that no sign-out celebration of any kind — including the signing of T-shirts, playing of music, or parading around the campuses in vehicles — will be tolerated.
The statement read in part: “Unauthorized vehicles will not be allowed into the campuses all through the last week of the second semester examination. Large gatherings of students after examinations are prohibited, and photographers will not be permitted to set up photo stands or galleries for such celebrations.”
The circular further advised parents and guardians of final-year students to stay away from the university premises, particularly on the last day of examinations.
UNIBEN management stressed that the ban was aimed at maintaining order and ensuring the safety of students and staff, urging full compliance from all members of the university community.
The Registrar cautioned that any student found violating the directive would face strict disciplinary measures.
“Any violation will attract severe disciplinary sanctions including withdrawal of certificate, rustication and expulsion of violators,” the circular warned.
