Delta 2026/2027 School Calendar: See Resumption Dates, Term Dates, Holidays for Schools


The Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has released the approved provisional school calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session, outlining resumption dates, teaching periods, examinations and holidays for primary and post-primary schools across the state.

The calendar, issued by the Ministry’s headquarters in Asaba, provides parents, students, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders with a timetable for the three academic terms.

When will schools resume in Delta State?

According to the calendar, teaching and learning for the 2026/2027 academic session will commence on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Principals, head teachers and teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to resume earlier, from Monday, September 7 to Friday, September 11, 2026, for meetings, admissions and planning ahead of the new session.

Boarders are scheduled to resume on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Delta State First Term Calendar 2026/2027

The first term will run from Monday, September 14 to Friday, December 18, 2026, covering a total of 65 school days.

The first half of teaching is scheduled for September 14 to October 23, followed by the mandatory mid-term PTA meeting from October 26 to 30.

The second half of teaching will run from November 2 to December 18, 2026.

First-term examinations are scheduled for December 14 to 18, 2026, while the School Term Achievement Review (STAR) Day and mandatory School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) meeting will hold on December 18.

The first-term holiday is scheduled to begin after the term ends.

Second Term begins January 2027

For the second term, boarders are expected to resume on Sunday, January 10, 2027, while teaching and learning will commence on Monday, January 11, 2027.

The first half of the second term will run from January 11 to February 12, 2027, followed by a mid-term break from February 15 to 19, 2027.

Teaching will resume on February 22, with the second half scheduled to run until March 25, 2027.

The second-term examination and end-of-term activities are scheduled for the final week of March, followed by a holiday period extending into April.

The calendar puts the total number of school days for the second term at 49 days.

Third Term school dates in Delta State

The third term will commence in April 2027. Boarders are scheduled to resume on Sunday, April 18, 2027, while teaching and learning will begin on Monday, April 19, 2027.

The first half of the third term will run from April 19 to May 28, followed by a mid-term break from May 31 to June 4, 2027.

The second half will run from June 7 to July 16, 2027, while third-term examinations are scheduled for July 19 to 23, 2027.

The STAR Day and mandatory SBMC meeting will also hold on Friday, July 23, 2027.

The third-term holiday is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 26, 2027, and run until September.

The third term will have 65 school days.

Other important dates for Delta schools

The Ministry’s calendar also contains dates for major examinations and school activities.

The Cognitive/Placement Examination is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2027, while the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is scheduled for Monday, May 31 to Friday, June 4, 2027.

The Ministry also stated that meetings of Parents Teachers Associations (PTA) and School Term Achievement Review (STAR) activities by School-Based Management Committees are mandatory and are to be held during mid-term breaks and on the last day of each term respectively.

All public and private schools in Delta State are expected to adhere strictly to the approved 2026/2027 academic calendar.

The Ministry further noted that national public holidays falling within the academic calendar would be observed as declared by the Federal Government.

Schools operating international curricula or those seeking to close outside the approved dates must obtain approval from the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

What the 2026/2027 calendar means for Deltans

The release of the academic calendar gives parents and guardians an opportunity to plan ahead for school fees, transportation, accommodation, examinations, holidays and other educational expenses.

It also provides schools with a structured framework for lesson delivery, examinations, PTA engagements and other academic activities throughout the session.
