Peter Okoye Defends Moving His Birthday to Nov 30

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has responded to backlash trailing his decision to shift his birthday celebration date from November 18 to November 30.

The former member of the defunct P-Square duo had earlier announced the change via his X page, stating that he would no longer accept messages or gifts on the original date, describing the move as a personal decision.

“I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day. My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision,” he wrote.

However, the announcement quickly sparked reactions online, prompting the singer to fire back at critics questioning his choice.

“Una dey vex like say I cancel Christmas? Na my birthday date I move, no be your own, why e dey pain you?” he said.

He further compared the reactions to ongoing debates about the date of Christmas, adding, “Even Jesus Christ December 25th date sef, people still dey debate am. Why cry more than the bereaved? Only in Nigeria.”

Okoye also criticised what he described as misplaced priorities, noting that the attention given to his birthday decision outweighed more pressing national issues.

“Funny how my birthday date shift is causing more pain than Nigeria’s real problems,” he added, stressing that his success remains unaffected by criticism.

The development has continued to generate mixed reactions across social media, with fans divided over the singer’s decision, even as he insists the move remains strictly personal.
