One Chance Syndicate Murders Ghanaian in Abuja, Brother Demands Justice
ABUJA: A Ghanaian national, Freda Arnong, has died after falling victim to a deadly ‘one chance’ robbery syndicate in Abuja.
The tragic incident, which occurred on July 1, 2025, has drawn outrage after her brother, Arnold Arnong, detailed her harrowing experience in a viral Facebook post demanding justice and systemic reforms.
According to Arnold, Freda had just closed from her house fellowship near the CBN Institute in Maitama and boarded a taxi around 7:00 p.m. along Transcorp Hilton road. Unbeknownst to her, it was operated by a criminal syndicate known locally as ‘One Chance’.
“She lived on Pope John Paul Street and, like any normal evening, boarded a taxi… unaware that it was a ‘one chance’ vehicle,” Arnold wrote.
Immediately after she entered the car, the attackers blindfolded and viciously assaulted her. “They demanded access to her phone and ordered her to open her bank app,” Arnold explained, adding that Freda wasn’t tech-savvy and preferred conducting financial transactions in person.
“She had also misplaced her ATM card two weeks earlier and had not replaced it,” he added.
Frustrated by their inability to access funds, the attackers escalated their brutality. “They intensified their assault to the point that Freda suggested calling her boss to transfer the N10 million they demanded. But they refused. Instead, they threatened to mutilate her and sell her body parts,” Arnold narrated.
After hours of torture and being driven around the city, Freda was dumped near the Moshood Abiola Stadium at about 11:00 p.m.
“Abandoned and broken, Freda reportedly tried to flag vehicles for help, but no one would stop for fear of the unknown,” Arnold stated. She was eventually rescued by a local vigilance team member and taken to the National Hospital, Abuja.
Medical examinations revealed a catalogue of internal injuries. “Scans and X-rays revealed multiple broken posterior ribs, lung lacerations, kidney damage, internal bleeding, and injuries to her eyes and heart,” Arnold revealed.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Freda died at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.
In an emotional tribute, Arnold decried the insecurity plaguing the nation’s capital and the absence of a functional public transportation safety system.
“What crime did Freda Arnong commit? Her only ‘crime’ was living in a beautiful city plagued by a broken system,” he lamented.
“How long will we keep losing innocent lives to the ‘one chance’ criminal syndicates? When will public transportation be safe for everyone? When will our leaders prioritize technology-driven transport safety?” he asked.
Arnold called for urgent reform, demanding a system that enables commuters to authenticate drivers and commercial vehicles in real-time before boarding.
“Freda cannot die in vain. Her killers must be found and prosecuted. There are countless families silently grieving loved ones lost to the same fate — abandoned by a system that failed to protect them,” he said.
“We must rise. We must demand change. We must secure our streets. We must end ‘one chance’ now,” Arnold declared, as his sister’s story continues to spark public outcry across social media.
