Chief Justice Swears In 68 New Senior Advocates of Nigeria
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has officially sworn in 68 legal practitioners into the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday at the Supreme Court complex in Abuja as part of official activities marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 Legal Year. The event brought together top members of the judiciary, senior lawyers, and key stakeholders across Nigeria’s justice sector.
The newly elevated legal practitioners were approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee at its plenary session following a rigorous screening process. The breakdown of the new SANs includes 67 legal advocates and one academic, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Chief Justice charged the new members of the Inner Bar to uphold strict professional ethics, maintain high standards of advocacy, and support the administration of justice across the country. The SAN rank represents one of the highest professional honors awarded to legal practitioners in Nigeria.
