Olu Jacobs’ Family Sets October 2 for Funeral

The family of late veteran Nollywood actor Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has announced October 2, 2026, as the date for his funeral.

Jacobs, who died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84, will be honoured with a Night of Tributes on Wednesday, September 30, ahead of his funeral service.

The Night of Tributes will hold at 4 p.m. at Glover Memorial Hall on Marina Road, Lagos Island, with mourners expected to dress in shades of blue.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, October 2, at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The family has selected shades of green as the dress code for the funeral service.

Jacobs’ widow, veteran actress Joke Silva, has also invited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attend the funeral ceremonies. In a letter dated September 23, Silva thanked the President for his condolence message following the actor’s death and his recognition of Jacobs’ contribution to Nigeria’s creative industry.

“Your Excellency’s presence would be a great honour to our family and would mean a great deal to us as we gather to pay our final respects to a man who devoted over five decades of his life to the arts and to the enrichment of Nigeria’s cultural heritage,” Silva wrote.

Jacobs built a career spanning more than five decades across theatre, television and film. He also co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts with Silva and received several honours, including the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

His death was announced by his family on September 16, with the family describing him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and asking the public to respect their privacy as they mourned.
