Customs Reopens Recruitment Screening for Disqualified Applicants
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a fresh review for applicants screened out during its recent recruitment exercise, following complaints from candidate shortlists who were barred from entering the training college.
Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, ordered a case-by-case reappraisal after personally meeting with some aggrieved applicants to ensure genuine concerns are addressed while protecting the integrity of the recruitment process.
Clarifying the initial disqualifications, the NCS revealed that 397 applicants were rejected during final verification due to issues involving drug abuse (excluding cigarettes and alcohol), physical fitness failures, medical conditions, age discrepancies, document irregularities, and selection process anomalies. The Service emphasized that appearing on the shortlist does not automatically guarantee final enlistment.
To resolve legitimate grievances, the Service has directed affected applicants to submit their details and formal complaints via email to [email protected].
Applicants taking advantage of this review window will undergo a fresh screening process. However, the NCS warned that candidates found guilty of criminal conduct or certificate forgery will be handed over for prosecution.
National Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, reassured the public that while genuine complaints will receive fair attention, the agency will not lower standards for personnel tasked with national security, border protection, and revenue collection.
