Yaya Mayweather Ordered to Pay $50m to 2020 Stabbing Victim
Iyanna “Yaya” Mayweather, daughter of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, has been ordered to pay Lapattra Lashai Jacobs $50.105 million over a 2020 stabbing incident at rapper NBA YoungBoy’s home.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a Texas judge awarded Jacobs $40.105 million in compensatory damages and an additional $10 million in exemplary damages.
The compensatory award includes more than $8 million for past damages, covering physical pain and mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of earning capacity and disfigurement. Another $32 million was awarded for future physical pain and mental anguish, physical impairment and disfigurement.
The judge also awarded the additional $10 million in exemplary damages after finding that Mayweather’s conduct involved “an extreme degree of risk” and “constituted aggravated assault involving the use of a deadly weapon.”
The court further ordered Mayweather to provide information about her bank accounts, contractual obligations, revenue streams and other earnings to assist with satisfying the judgment.
The case dates back to April 3, 2020, when Mayweather and Jacobs were involved in an altercation at NBA YoungBoy’s home in Cypress, Texas. Prosecutors said the confrontation escalated before Mayweather retrieved two knives and stabbed Jacobs in the arm. Jacobs was hospitalised and underwent surgery.
Mayweather pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2022 and received six years of probation through a deferred-adjudication arrangement.
Jacobs had also named NBA YoungBoy in the civil lawsuit, but the claims against the rapper did not proceed to trial.
The latest civil judgment is separate from the criminal case and brings the total financial award against Mayweather to $50.105 million.
