WAEC Apologises for Technical Glitches in 2025 WASSCE Results
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued an official apology following the discovery of technical glitches affecting the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates.
In a statement released on Thursday, August 7, from its headquarters in Yaba, Lagos, the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, acknowledged that the council encountered unexpected issues following the implementation of new security measures to combat examination malpractice.
According to WAEC, a new method called paper serialisation, already in use by another national exam body, was applied to critical subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics during the 2025 examination. However, a subsequent internal review revealed technical bugs in the result-processing system, which affected the accuracy of candidates’ scores.
In response, WAEC announced a temporary suspension of access to the results via its official result checker portal to allow for thorough corrections.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our candidates and the public as we work diligently to correct this matter,” the statement read.
“WAEC remains steadfast in its mission to uphold excellence, fairness, and transparency in all our assessment processes.”
The council assured the public that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours and advised all affected candidates who had already checked their results to revisit the portal after the correction period for updated information.
