Tyler Perry Reveals Why He’ll Never Get Married
Hollywood filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry has said he has no plans to get married, citing what he described as the “divorce pandemic” and its financial consequences.
The 57-year-old entertainment mogul made the comments during a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where he discussed his decision to remain unmarried.
Perry, who has never been married, said his position was influenced by seeing people around him suffer significant financial losses after divorce.
“I’m never marrying. And it’s actually the divorce pandemic that is happening. Everybody that I know that is doing well went broke because of divorce,” he said.
The filmmaker’s comments suggest that his decision is not a rejection of love or companionship, but rather a personal choice shaped by his concerns about the financial and legal consequences that can accompany divorce.
Perry also spoke about how getting older has changed his priorities, saying he wants to slow down, spend more time with his son and enjoy life.
“It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”
Perry shares his 11-year-old son, Aman, with his former partner, Ethiopian model Gelila Bekele. The pair were in a relationship from 2009 until 2020 and have remained focused on co-parenting their son.
The actor’s comments come as he promotes his latest film, Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third instalment in the franchise that began with Why Did I Get Married? in 2007 and explores themes of marriage, relationships and divorce.
Despite his decision to remain unmarried, Perry has made clear that his position is personal, with his concerns centred largely on the consequences he associates with divorce rather than a rejection of relationships.
