Tinubu Approves Full Bonuses for Super Falcons Ahead of WAFCON Final, Promises End to Payment Delays
President Bola Tinubu has approved the full disbursement of allowances and match bonuses for the Super Falcons ahead of their highly anticipated final clash against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, announced the development while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday. He revealed that all financial entitlements, covering the entire tournament up to the July 26 final have already been released for immediate payment to players, coaches, and officials.
Dikko hailed the move as “policy in motion” and a clear sign of President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building, one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity. Future generations would appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector,” Dikko said.
He further assured that the prompt payment of entitlements would now become standard practice under the current administration.
“This would now be the standard going forward, timely payments without drama or delays,” he said.
Dikko also confirmed that the improved payment scheme extends to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire. According to him, D’Tigress will receive enhanced allowances and bonuses in line with the new policy direction.
