SZA Reveals She Rejected Nicki Minaj’s Collaboration Offers Twice
SZA Reveals She Rejected Nicki Minaj’s Collaboration Offers TwiceA heated social media clash erupted this week between rap queen Nicki Minaj and R&B star SZA, after SZA publicly disclosed that she had declined two separate collaboration requests from Minaj.
The drama unfolded on X (formerly Twitter) after Minaj launched a verbal assault on Terrence “Punch” Henderson, President of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) and SZA’s former manager, accusing him of “bullying” her over alleged business rejections.
Shortly after Minaj’s tirade, SZA posted what appeared to be a cryptic tweet that read:
“Mercury retrograde… don’t take the bait lol silly goose.”
Although she didn’t mention Minaj directly, the rapper interpreted it as a personal jab and fired back with a series of insults.
“Go draw your freckles back on bookie… Sounding like a dead dog,” Minaj tweeted, calling SZA “ugly” and a “liar.”
She doubled down: “If every song you’ve ever done vanished right now, the music business wouldn’t even miss you.”
In another blistering tweet, Minaj added:
“Bitch, what have you ever done besides yodel with auto-tune that needed retuning? Boo, I’m an icon. You’re not. The end.”
While SZA is typically known for staying out of online drama, she broke her silence with a calm but firm clapback—revealing that not only had she declined to work with Minaj twice, but also that Minaj was well aware of her artistry.
“Nicki. You absolutely know my music and what I contribute cause you’ve asked for features twice to no response. In addition to rapping my lyrics on ‘Feeling Myself’—‘Cooking up the bass looking like a kilo’? Lol ur having a moment… I’m not sure why but be blessed,” SZA wrote.
To back up her claim, she included a screenshot of a direct message allegedly sent by Minaj’s team, formally requesting a collaboration. The professional tone of the message appeared to contradict Minaj’s claim that she didn’t rate SZA’s work.
Replying to fans, SZA addressed the toll of public scrutiny:
“I get bullied by millions online every day, then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where people show me real love. In real life. My parents are healthy and I’m the most successful I ever been. Get some perspective and bark at the wall!!!”
Minaj, in turn, resurfaced old tweets allegedly made by SZA targeting female artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, Madonna, and Ciara whom SZA later collaborated with, accusing her of “targeting women for no reason.”
The feud also reignited Minaj’s ongoing grievances with Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez. Using the hashtag #JusticeForDemoree, in reference to Perez’s daughter Demoree Hadley—who has accused her mother of unlawful detainment—Minaj tied the spat to broader accusations of manipulation and bullying in the music industry.
This incident adds to Minaj’s growing list of high-profile conflicts with female artists, including Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Miley Cyrus, and Mariah Carey.
As for SZA, her decision to publicly address the issue marked a departure from her typically reserved online presence. Wrapping up her involvement in the feud, she tweeted:
“Lmao lemme go back to being calm, shy and meek. Y’all have a blessed night! See you tomorrow for night 2, Paris!”
SZA is currently on tour with Kendrick Lamar and recently performed at Paris La Défense Arena, continuing her record-breaking run despite the social media storm.
