Nicki Minaj Speaks Out Against Attacks on Christians in Nigeria
American rap superstar Nicki Minaj has opened up about her deep personal connection to Nigeria, revealing that her relationship with her Nigerian pastor and her massive fanbase, known as the “Barbs,” heavily influenced her decision to speak out against the alleged persecution of Christians in the country.
The award-winning artist made the disclosure during her appearance at the X Takeover event held at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility in Austin, Texas. During the high-profile session, Minaj used her global platform to draw attention to what she described as the brutal treatment and violence faced by Christians in parts of Nigeria.
Explaining what motivated her activism on the issue, Minaj noted that her personal ties and distressing reports of attacks made her question why mainstream public figures were silent.
“For Nigeria personally, my pastor is from Nigeria, so I have a link to Nigeria because of him. And of course, I have a lot of Nigerian Barbs, but what I started seeing was the brutality with which Christians are being treated there just for being Christian,” she stated.
The rapper criticized the tendency of celebrities and global influencers to avoid politically sensitive or complex humanitarian issues simply because they are not considered trendy. She passionately called on fellow stars to use their massive reach to amplify awareness and advocate for religious freedom globally.
Minaj emphasized that religious freedom should never be taken for granted and declared that advocates would no longer be silenced by bullies. Her remarks have since generated intense online reactions across Nigerian social media spaces, sparking fresh conversations among fans regarding international commentary on local security and religious matters.
