Skipping Classes May Lead to Visa Ban, U.S Mission Warns Nigerian Students
The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a stern warning to international students, particularly Nigerians, regarding the consequences of violating student visa regulations.
In an announcement shared via its official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the mission cautioned that students who fail to attend classes, abandon their academic programmes, or withdraw from school without notifying their institutions could face immediate revocation of their student visas.
“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your programmes of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas,” the statement read.
The mission further explained that such violations could not only result in the cancellation of the current visa but may also disqualify affected individuals from obtaining any future visa to the United States.
To avoid such immigration complications, the US Mission advised all student visa holders to strictly adhere to the terms of their visas by maintaining their academic status, regularly attending classes, and communicating promptly with their schools about any changes in their study plans.
“Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues,” the embassy emphasized.
The advisory comes at a time when thousands of Nigerian and other international students are preparing to travel to the United States for the Fall 2025 academic session.
