Portable Is Currently In Custody – Police Confirms Arrest

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, over allegations of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

According to SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command’s spokesperson, Portable was arrested following a petition from Mr. Okunola Saheed, also known as “Osupa”. The police obtained a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin before apprehending Portable in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday at 7:25 pm.

Portable was taken into custody in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. His statement was obtained, and he is currently being held in police custody. Arrangements are underway to charge him to court without delay.

”The suspect was arrested following a petition received from one Mr Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa”.

“Police detectives in Kwara command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.

“The petition borders on serious allegations which includes criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and the use of abusive and insulting words.

“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.

“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun, on Saturday, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs,” she said.

“He is currently in custody and arrangements are being made to charge him to court without delay”, she said.

The Kwara State Police Command emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served fairly and transparently. The public is urged to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, with further updates to be communicated as events unfold.
