Nnamdi Kanu’s Sister-in-Law Barred from Court for Broadcasting Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday barred Favour Kanu, wife of Prince Fineboy Kanu the younger brother of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu from attending three court proceedings for live-streaming the trial on her Facebook page.

Nnamdi Kanu is facing prosecution by the Federal Government on charges related to terrorism.

Justice James Omotosho issued the restriction after Mrs. Kanu admitted to streaming the court session and apologized. The judge warned that her actions amounted to contempt of court.

“I want to hear from her. Were you not the one that I took your phone?” Justice Omotosho asked during the proceedings.

The judge expressed dismay that despite having her phone confiscated during a previous hearing for recording the court, Mrs. Kanu still went ahead to post the video online.

“I did not give order to forfeit that phone. I don’t know if she might be a wife to my brother (Nnamdi Kanu),” he added.

Although Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, lead counsel for the defendant, also tendered an apology on her behalf, the judge insisted on disciplinary action, stating that Mrs. Kanu would be barred from attending the next three court sessions.

Justice Omotosho also cautioned all parties against any conduct that could delay the trial process, emphasizing that justice would be delivered.

“Any act that could cause delay in the trial must be avoided,” he said. “I assure all parties that justice will be served.”
