Ndokwa Nation Passes Vote of Confidence in Oborevwori

The apex socio-cultural body of Ndokwa Nation, Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), has passed a vote of confidence in Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in recognition of what it described as his inclusive and development-driven leadership.

The endorsement was made on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by leaders, elders, and stakeholders of Ndokwa Nation to the Governor at Government House, Asaba.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, President-General of the NNU, Chief Amaechi Asugwuni, commended the Governor for his developmental strides across Ndokwa land and the wider state, noting that his administration has demonstrated fairness, accessibility, and purposeful governance.

He highlighted the completion of the Ndokwa House as a landmark achievement that would serve as a centre for consultation and unity among Ndokwa people.

Asugwuni also praised the completion of the Asaba-Kwale-Ughelli Road, describing it as a major infrastructure project that has improved connectivity and economic activity within the state.

While expressing appreciation, he raised concerns over electricity supply challenges in Ndokwa communities and appealed for urgent intervention, including the step-down of the Okpai Independent Power Plant.

He also condemned the vandalism of electricity infrastructure in strong terms.

“as a people, we condemn in the strongest possible terms every act of vandalism directed at public infrastructure. We cannot continue to demand development while allowing few individuals to sabotage facilities meant to improve our lives”.

He further appealed for the siting of higher institutions and additional infrastructure projects in Ndokwa land to boost education and development.

“on behalf of the National Executive Council of Ndokwa Neku Union and the entire Ndokwa ethnic nationality, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence in Your Excellency, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori in recognition of your exemplary, inclusive and development-oriented leadership”.

In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked the delegation for their support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to balanced development across Delta State.

He commended the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, as well as the leadership of the Ndokwa Neku Union, for their contributions to governance and community development.

Addressing the electricity concerns, the Governor acknowledged the challenges and attributed delays in power restoration efforts to repeated vandalism of infrastructure.

He disclosed that additional funding had been approved for electrification projects and assured that work would soon resume in affected communities.

Oborevwori added that discussions were ongoing with relevant stakeholders, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria, to resolve electricity challenges, while the proposed Okpai Step-Down Facility remains under consideration.

On education demands, the Governor noted that Ndokwa already hosts a federal university, urging stakeholders to strengthen existing institutions rather than duplicate projects.

He reaffirmed that several road projects across Ndokwa Nation had been approved or were already ongoing, stressing that development is being evenly distributed across the state.

Oborevwori also emphasized that Ndokwa indigenes occupy key positions in his administration, ensuring strong representation in governance.
