BREAKING: Sowore Leads Protest, Demands Justice for Police Officers

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on Monday led a peaceful protest to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, calling for urgent reforms in the welfare and pension schemes of Nigerian police personnel.

The demonstrators, chanting slogans such as “Pay police a living wage and proper pensions,” gathered with placards demanding better treatment for both active-duty and retired officers. Some of the messages read: “Decent Salaries Now,” “End Police Slavery,” “Pensions for Police Officers,” and “Dignity for Those in Uniform,” under the banner #PoliceProtest.

Though security personnel barred the group from entering the Force Headquarters, they were provided with a police escort as they marched to the National Assembly complex, continuing to press their demands for comprehensive reforms in police remuneration and retirement benefits.

Sowore emphasized that improving the welfare of police officers was essential to national security and justice. “A country that underpays its police and neglects their pension is one that endangers its own peace,” he stated during the demonstration.
