AVM Terry Okorodudu Foundation Provides Free Eye Surgeries for Over 400 Beneficiaries
More than 400 residents of Warri and surrounding communities have benefited from a free eye care outreach organised by the AVM Terry Omatsola Okorodudu Foundation in partnership with the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation.
The three-day medical outreach offered free eye screening, cataract and glaucoma surgeries, prescription medications and eyeglasses to beneficiaries from Itsekiri, Ijaw, Isoko and other communities across Delta State.
Held in memory of the late Air Vice Marshal Terry Omatsola Okorodudu (Rtd.), the initiative aimed to continue his legacy of humanitarian service by improving access to quality eye care for vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking during the outreach, Dr. Gabriel Mejuya Okorodudu, Founder of the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation, said the programme was designed to restore not only sight but also dignity and hope to people who could not afford treatment.
“Our late brother dedicated his life to serving Nigeria with honour and integrity. We believe one of the best ways to immortalize him is by giving hope to those who are unable to help themselves. Restoring someone’s sight is about much more than medicine; it restores confidence, dignity, the ability to work and care for family members.”
He appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to support the expansion of the programme to more underserved communities across Nigeria.
As part of the outreach, the foundation also awarded five educational scholarships to deserving students, reaffirming its commitment to healthcare and education.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude after regaining their sight, describing the intervention as life-changing.
The foundation said it plans to sustain the free eye care outreach as an annual humanitarian programme while expanding its community development initiatives in honour of the late Air Vice Marshal.
