Police Nab 4 Armed Robbery Suspects in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal elements in Asaba, arresting four suspected armed robbers and recovering dangerous weapons in a series of coordinated operations.

The arrests, carried out on Thursday, April 23, were executed by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the Crack Squad during routine patrols and stop-and-search operations across key locations in the state capital.

Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the operations led to the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol, a locally made cut-to-size firearm, and a live cartridge.

According to him, in the first incident along Ugbolu/Asaba Road, operatives intercepted a 28-year-old suspect, identified as Chinoso Igwemma, whose suspicious movements attracted attention.

“The suspect’s conduct raised concerns, and upon searching him, a fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered,” Edafe stated, noting that the swift intervention of officers likely prevented a potential violent attack.

In a separate operation, the Crack Squad intercepted a tricycle in the Bonsaac area of Asaba conveying three suspects — Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30).

A thorough search of the suspects led to the discovery of a locally made firearm loaded with a live cartridge.

Edafe revealed that preliminary investigations suggest the suspects are linked to robbery activities targeting unsuspecting members of the public, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining proactive and intelligence-driven policing strategies across Delta State.

“We remain committed to proactive strategies that will prevent crime and dismantle criminal networks,” the CP stated.

All four suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
