Oborevwori, Jampur Group Advance Talks on Power and Agriculture Investments in Delta

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 advanced his administration’s investment drive with a strategic meeting with Jampur Group, aimed at unlocking transformative projects in power generation, renewable energy, and agriculture.

The engagement, held at Government House, Asaba, focused on concrete investment plans to boost electricity supply, fertilizer production, and industrial expansion — projects projected to create thousands of jobs, strengthen Delta’s revenue streams, and reinforce its position as an investment hub.

Governor Oborevwori underscored the importance of end-to-end power solutions for sustainable development, noting that the talks covered gas-powered electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.

Key proposals include: A 100-megawatt floating power board, modeled after Jampur’s Lagos operations, smart metering systems for homes and industries, establishment of a fertilizer blending plant to boost agriculture, and a solar panel manufacturing plant to scale renewable energy adoption.

Governor Oborevwori confirmed that the state’s economic management team has been directed to work with Jampur Group to identify viable areas of partnership under the MORE Agenda, which prioritizes modernization, opportunities, reform, and economic expansion.

Jampur Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohammad Shafiq, described the engagement as promising, crediting Delta State’s enabling environment and the domestication of the Electricity Act 2023, which empowers states to generate and regulate their own power.

“It was a very nice meeting we had with the governor. We discussed power generation, agriculture through fertilizer blending, electric assembly meters, and solar panel manufacturing. Our immediate plan is to commence with a floating power board of 100 megawatts, similar to what we have in Lagos,” Shafiq revealed.

He emphasized that reliable power is the foundation of industrial growth, job creation, and revenue expansion. “Delta State is positioned to benefit from this new law, and that is why we requested a meeting with the governor. Power is the key to unlocking economic growth, and Delta has the potential to lead in this area,” he added.

If actualized, the partnership with Jampur Group is expected to: Reduce Delta’s dependence on external power sources, accelerate industrial activities across the state, strengthen agricultural productivity through fertilizer support, and spur inclusive growth and prosperity through job creation.
