Lionel Messi Set to Acquire Spanish Club Eldense
Football superstar Lionel Messi is close to completing a deal to acquire Spanish second-tier club CD Eldense after reaching an agreement in principle to purchase 100 per cent of the club’s shares.
According to Reuters, Messi has agreed to acquire the shares currently held by Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., which took control of Eldense in October 2025. The transaction is still subject to the completion of legal procedures and approval from Spain’s High Council for Sports (CSD).
Spanish news agency EFE also reported that Messi had reached an agreement in principle to become the majority shareholder of Eldense, while Spanish outlet AS reported that the Argentine intends to acquire the entire shareholding.
The potential takeover would mark Messi’s entry into ownership of a professional Spanish football club. He already acquired control of UE Cornellà, a lower-league Spanish side, earlier in 2026.
Eldense, based in Elda in Alicante, currently competes in Spain’s second division. The club has struggled at the start of the current campaign and recently parted ways with manager Claudio Barragán after collecting only two points from its opening four matches.
If completed, the acquisition would further expand Messi’s growing involvement in football beyond his playing career. The Argentine remains an Inter Miami player in Major League Soccer while increasingly building interests in football club ownership.
The Eldense deal would also strengthen Messi’s presence in Spanish football, where he spent the majority of his playing career with Barcelona before moving to Paris Saint-Germain and later Inter Miami.
