I’m Running for President in 2027, Not Atiku’s VP – Peter Obi
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, shutting down speculations that he may accept a running mate position under former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme aired Sunday, Obi stated firmly:
“I’m going to contest for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I believe I am qualified for it.”
Addressing growing rumours of a potential alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku, the former Anambra State governor denied any such arrangement.
“This is not in play; nobody has ever discussed that. People assume so many things. Nobody has ever discussed with me whether I am going to be A or B or C,” he said.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, stressing that he remains a dedicated and “vibrant” member of the party. Still, he acknowledged being part of a broader political movement working toward unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
“I am part of the coalition which will be able to produce a president with the capacity and compassion to save this country,” Obi noted.
