Delta State Police Bans Fireworks, Knockouts, Bangers This Christmas
The Delta State Police Command has announced a strict ban on fireworks, knockouts, and bangers ahead of the 2025 Christmas celebrations, warning that violations will be met with arrests and prosecution.
State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, stated that the prohibition covers the use, sale, and display of all pyrotechnic devices, including fireworks and firecrackers commonly referred to as “knockouts” and “bangers.”
The directive, contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, is aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful festive season for residents.
“Parents and guardians should caution their children against using these items. Retailers are advised to immediately withdraw them from sale. Anyone found in violation will be arrested, prosecuted, and have their goods confiscated,” the statement read.
To ensure enforcement, the CP instructed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to monitor compliance and take immediate action against offenders.
Commissioner Abaniwonda thanked residents for their continued cooperation and urged the public to report any incidents involving fireworks or illegal sales at the nearest police station or through the command’s control room.
The Delta Police emphasized that fireworks and pyrotechnics are often misused by criminal elements to mask gunshots, burglaries, and other criminal activities. Over the years, enforcement of fireworks bans during the Yuletide has been a standard practice across Nigeria to reduce fire hazards and enhance public safety.
“Our goal is to ensure a safe, peaceful, and incident-free Christmas for all residents of Delta State,” the CP added.
