An aide of Senator Abdulaziz Yari has debunked viral social media reports claiming that the lawmaker said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “caged” inside the Presidential Villa.
In a statement on Wednesday, Yari’s ally, Aminu Shehu, dismissed the claim as false and mischievous, warning that it was designed to mislead the public and sow unnecessary political tension following the One Nigeria Project Conference in Abuja.
Shehu clarified that Senator Yari never made any comment suggesting the President was being caged or restricted. Instead, he said, Yari used the platform to commend President Tinubu’s leadership and call for unity among Nigerians.
According to him, the former Zamfara governor highlighted the President’s “tireless commitment” to stabilising the nation, noting that Tinubu had been receiving comprehensive briefings from key sectors as part of efforts to move the country forward.
“He stated that President Tinubu has been working diligently because he is determined to address Nigeria’s challenges,” the statement said.
Yari also blamed many of the country’s problems on actions by Nigerians themselves, stressing that collective responsibility and national cohesion were essential for progress.
“So many of the challenges we face were created by us, but we need to come together,” he said.
Shehu further disclosed that Yari personally informed the President about his attendance at the conference, emphasising the senator’s support for initiatives that promote unity.
The statement added that Yari addressed the growing trend of harsh rhetoric against the President, noting that some of the criticisms emanate from those who “should know better.”
Yari’s actual remarks, Shehu insisted, stand in complete contrast to the misleading narrative circulating online.
