Delta Investment Summit: Taiwo Oyedele Says Delta Has What Investors Need

Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, has urged Delta State to leverage the Federal Government’s economic reforms to attract investment, expand businesses and drive sustainable economic growth.

Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, Oyedele said the theme, “Harnessing Our Strengths, Unlocking Our Potentials,” reflects the opportunity before Delta State to build on recent reforms and accelerate development through strategic investments and effective governance.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took bold but necessary decisions to reposition Nigeria’s economy by unifying the foreign exchange market, removing fuel subsidies, restoring monetary discipline and implementing tax reforms that broadened the tax base while reducing the burden on businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“I mention these achievements not to declare victory, but to underscore a fundamental truth: macroeconomic stability is the responsibility of the Federal Government, and that foundation has now been laid.”

Oyedele explained that the reforms have significantly increased revenues available to states and local governments, enabling them to pay salaries, clear pension arrears, invest in infrastructure and improve public services. He stressed that while the Federal Government is responsible for creating macroeconomic stability, state governments must convert that stability into shared prosperity through sound policies and an investor-friendly environment.

“The Federal Government provides economic stability. State governments convert that stability into shared prosperity. Local governments, in turn, translate that prosperity into a higher standard of living for every family. That is what genuine fiscal restructuring looks like in practice.”

He further noted that many of the decisions that directly affect businesses, such as land administration, investment facilitation and agricultural value chains are primarily the responsibility of state governments. According to him, Delta State possesses significant competitive advantages, including abundant natural resources, a strategic location, strong agricultural potential and an entrepreneurial population, positioning it for sustained economic growth.

“When strong federal economic reforms are matched with visionary leadership at the state level, opportunity becomes reality. The Federal Government is fulfilling its responsibility at the centre, and Delta State is demonstrating its commitment by creating an enabling environment where investment, enterprise, and prosperity can flourish.”

Oyedele concluded by urging the Delta State Government to maximise the opportunities created by the Federal Government’s reforms by deepening private-sector investment, expanding industrialisation and creating sustainable economic opportunities for residents.
