Delta First Lady Commissions Sickle Cell Clinic at Eku Hospital


Delta State First Lady and Founder of O5 Initiative, Dame Edith Okowa Wednesday commissioned a Sickle Cell Clinic at Government Baptist Hospital, Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area.

Commissioning the Clinic, Dame Okowa encouraged Mothers to regularly visit the Clinic in order to fully utilize the lifesaving equipment which have been made available for them.

She noted that, O5 initiative have established Five Sickle Cell Clinics in Delta state-  Agbor, Oleh, Sapele, Ughelli, Kwale and this one at Eku, is the Sixth. “The Eku Sickle cell Clinic is a special one because the medical checkup carried out once a month at other centers will be carried out on a weekly basis for patients in Eku.”

The First Lady encouraged mothers not to loose faith in their Sickle Cell Children “If your child is SS, it is not a death sentence. The child can still live a normal life. All you need to do is to follow the laid down instructions as prescribed by medical personnel.”

She also advised intending couples to avoid the temptation of AS combination but if there is any marriage existing on such combination, they should seek medical help in managing children that would come from such union.

On a tour of the Clinic, Dame Okowa donated Mosquito Nets to Children and Mothers at the various wards.
