Ochonogor Drives Female Youth Empowerment, Launches Girl-Child Ambassadors in Ndokwa West

In a major boost for female youth inclusion and grassroots capacity building in Delta North, the Convener of the Girl-Child Ambassadors, Chief Festus Ochonogor, has officially inaugurated the Ndokwa West chapter of the organization, charging young women to embrace skill acquisition, education, and active participation in governance.

The inauguration, which took place on Friday, September 11, 2026, in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, brought together key political leaders, community stakeholders, and hundreds of female youths aged between 18 and 40.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Ochonogor revealed that while his political and youth empowerment initiatives since 1999 primarily focused on male youths, a deliberate decision was taken seven months ago to balance the narrative by creating structured development pathways specifically tailored for young women.

“We need to encourage them to go to school and empower those with skills. By the end of this year, we will launch comprehensive skill acquisition programmes,” Ochonogor promised. He also commended the Delta State Government for advancing gender inclusion, highlighting the election and appointment of female vice chairpersons across 23 of the state’s 25 local government areas as a progressive step.

Declaring the group formally inaugurated, the member representing Ndokwa West in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, praised Ochonogor as a “builder of men” and urged the ambassadors to demonstrate clear intention and stay committed to their core mandate.

Speaking in the same vein, the lawmaker representing Ika North East, Hon. Medelin Okowa-Daramola, urged female youths to foster mutual support rather than division, emphasizing that active civic participation remains key to unlocking emerging leadership opportunities. On his part, Ndokwa West Council Chairman, Chief Godday Obi Nzete, commended the group’s resilience and pledged local government empowerment support for members before the close of the year.

Responding on behalf of the group, Ndokwa West Coordinator of the Girl-Child Ambassadors, Ms. Nkem Omede, expressed gratitude to Chief Ochonogor for his vision. She reaffirmed the group’s dedication to grassroots development and pledged firm alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The well-attended event drew prominent figures including Delta North APC Chairman Chief Dan Ossai, Ndokwa West APC Chairman Chief Anslem Nzete (Igwe Dubai), Ndokwa East House Member Hon. Prince Osamuta, Mrs. Juan Governor of the Ndokwa Neku Union, and leaders from various women organizations across Delta State.
