MC Oluomo Urges Tinubu, Keyamo to Lift Flight Ban on Fuji Star Kwam 1

The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu “MC Oluomo” Akinsanya, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to lift the six-month flight ban placed on Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1.

The ban, imposed by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) after an incident aboard ValueJet Airlines, followed allegations that Kwam 1 breached aviation regulations by bringing alcohol on board Flight VK 201 from Abuja to Lagos. According to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the action led to an altercation with a flight attendant.

Following the incident, the NCAA, with the approval of the Minister of Aviation, placed Ayinde on a no-fly list for both domestic and international flights pending investigations. The pilot involved, Capt. Oluranti Ogoyi, was also blacklisted.

In a statement shared on Instagram, MC Oluomo urged the authorities to temper justice with mercy. He said Kwam 1 had acknowledged his wrongdoing, apologised, and was willing to make amends.

“To His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I humbly and fervently appeal to you to exercise mercy and forgiveness towards Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1). Like a prodigal son, K1 has acknowledged his mistakes, is sincerely apologetic, and is willing to make amends,” he wrote.

MC Oluomo also called on the Director-General of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, and Minister Keyamo to consider Kwam 1’s 50-year career and his promotion of Yoruba culture worldwide. He extended apologies to ValueJet CEO Kunle Soname, the airline staff, the pilot, and the general public.

“I plead with the authorities to accept K1’s apology and show mercy, considering his legacy and dedication to the nation. May wisdom guide your decisions, and may we not throw away the baby with the bathwater,” he added.
