In line with the job creation drive of the Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, 36 youths of Isoko ethnic extraction have arrived Odi, Bayelsa State for skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training.
The two weeks program holding at the Bioresources Development Center, Odi, Bayelsa State is being sponsored by the Member Representing Isoko South 2 Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. (Chief) Ferguson Onwo under his Okpobrisi Sustainable Development Scheme.
Addressing the 36 youths drawn from the six wards that make up Isoko South 2 Constituency during the pre-departure briefing held at his Constituency Office in Olomoro, Isoko South, Hon Onwo enjoined them to make good use of the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training to acquire knowledge that will raise them into becoming employers of Labour.
Represented by a former Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka and a Leader in Isoko Nation, Prof Abednego Ekoko, the Lawmaker explained that the training program is in line with his campaign promises and the SMART agenda policies of Governor Okowa’s led administration, disclosing that the 36 participants were the first batch of the empowerment scheme.
Hon Onwo urged the trainees to be good ambassadors of the scheme, respect the culture and tradition of the host community and to make the best of the rich experience at the camp during the two weeks training programs.
“I wish to congratulate the beneficiaries of the Batch A of this program. I am particularly happy because something new is happening in our constituency. This is an innovation I have firm believe on, because skills learned in the course of training can’t be sold unlike the usual kind of empowerment of motorcycles, tricycles (keke) etc which are often sold by the beneficiaries at a price lower than the cost of purchase.” the Lawmaker stated.
While wishing the candidates the best of luck, Hon Onwo assured that the program will be continuous and appealed to those who couldn’t make it in the first batch to be patient as they will be accommodated in subsequent programs.
He said the candidates drawn from Olomoro, Uzere, Igbide, Enwhe, Umeh, Erowha and Aviara communities in Isoko South 2 Constituency, were being trained in Snail and Mushroom Farming, Fish Production Technology, Grass Cutter Rearing and Macro Propagation of Banana and Plantain.
Mr Collins Enigheno who also addressed the participants, urged them to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the Delta Lawmaker to encourage him to do more for the people.
The beneficiaries who spoke thanked Hon Ferguoson Onwo for the opportunity and assured that they will be of good conduct through out the training programs.
