European Football Scouts Storm Asaba to Hunt Delta Talents

International football scouts from European clubs Slavia Prague FC and Widzew Łódź FC have arrived in Delta State to evaluate emerging grassroots talents for professional opportunities abroad.

The U-18 scouting exercise, hosted at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, brings together young players seeking to launch their professional careers in European leagues.

Representatives leading the assessment process include Uros Markovic, Head of Scouting at Czech Republic’s Slavia Prague, and Piotr Kaspzak, Head of the Scouting Department at Poland’s Widzew Łódź.

Throughout the screening, the evaluators are examining the participants’ technical abilities, tactical awareness, physical condition, discipline, and overall capacity to adapt to competitive European standards.

This latest initiative builds on a previous scouting session in Delta State that yielded tangible results, with two young players securing trial opportunities in Europe.

Augustine Freedom of Winsome FC, hailing from the riverine Gbaramatu kingdom, and Oghoghoreva Ewhomazino of Mighty Wanderers FC, from Ukpude in Isoko South Local Government Area, both earned international trial spots through the initiative.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, expressed optimism about the state’s talent pipeline. He noted that seeing players from rural and riverine communities progress to international trials proves that grassroots sports development in Delta State is producing meaningful outcomes.

Oborevwori emphasized that the state government remains committed to providing platforms for young athletes to showcase their potential, adding that sports development should be judged not only by tournament victories but also by its ability to transform lives through life-changing exposure. He advised the participating footballers to complement their technical gifts with hard work, discipline, and a coachable attitude.

Addressing the players, the visiting European evaluators highlighted the key attributes required to succeed in international football. Slavia Prague scouting head Uros Markovic noted that beyond raw technical ability, scouts focus heavily on decision-making, off-ball movement, teamwork, and how well players respond to coaching in match situations.

Similarly, Widzew Łódź scouting head Piotr Kaspzak stressed that evaluations are based on consistent performance, tactical understanding, and a willingness to learn rather than isolated moments of individual brilliance.

As assessment sessions continue at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, sports stakeholders and participating players remain hopeful that more local talents will catch the attention of foreign scouts and secure career opportunities in European professional football.
