BREAKING: Delta Government Approves Recruitment of Secondary Teachers

The Delta State Government has approved the recruitment of additional teachers for public secondary schools and the procurement of modern equipment for technical colleges as part of efforts to improve education and strengthen technical skills acquisition across the state.

The approvals were among the major decisions reached at the Executive Council (EXCO) meeting chaired by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the council expressed concern over the shortage of teachers in public secondary schools, particularly in science-related subjects.

He said the Ministry of Secondary Education had been directed to immediately prepare a comprehensive report indicating the number of teachers required, adding that the Executive Council had given approval in principle for the recruitment of additional teachers.

According to Aniagwu, the move is aimed at addressing manpower shortages and improving the quality of teaching and learning across public secondary schools in Delta State.

The commissioner also disclosed that EXCO approved the procurement and installation of equipment for the newly constructed Technical College in Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

He added that the council equally approved plans to equip the Technical College in Irri immediately after the completion of construction.

Aniagwu said the approvals demonstrate Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to revitalising technical and vocational education by providing students with practical skills that will enhance employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and economic development.

He noted that investing in technical education remains a critical component of the administration’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, aimed at preparing young people for the demands of today’s labour market.

The commissioner added that the approvals reaffirm the government’s determination to expand access to quality education and produce a skilled workforce capable of driving Delta State’s future growth.
