Spanish midfield legend Sergio Busquets has officially confirmed that he will retire from professional football at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

According to PUNCH, Football journalist Fabrizio Romano first reported the news on Friday in a social media post, revealing that the Inter Miami star will hang up his boots this October.

He wrote: “Sergio Busquets RETIRES from professional football at the end of the MLS season!
Decision made by Spanish midfielder… who’s leaving Inter Miami and professional football in October. Legend and icon of the game.”

The 36-year-old midfielder later confirmed the reports with a heartfelt Instagram post. Sharing a tribute video, Busquets wrote:

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone, and to football, for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”

Busquets is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation, celebrated for his intelligence, composure, and control of the game.

With Barcelona, he won multiple La Liga titles and UEFA Champions League trophies, playing a pivotal role in the club’s dominance under Pep Guardiola and beyond.
