Epileptic Power Supply: Oborevwori Says Delta Has Power, Identifies Distribution as Challenge

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has identified electricity distribution as a major challenge behind persistent power supply problems in the state, assuring residents that his administration is making arrangements to improve electricity supply.

The Governor also disclosed that the state already has the necessary electricity law in place and is searching for a competent professional to manage the proposed regulatory commission as part of efforts to address the distribution challenges.

Oborevwori spoke on Tuesday, November 4, 2026, at a grand reception organised in his honour and that of his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, at Isoko House, Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area.

Addressing concerns over persistent electricity outages, particularly in Isoko communities, the Governor said Delta State had power but was facing difficulties with distribution.

“Delta State has power. It’s distribution. We are making all arrangements. We have a law already. We are looking for a competent hand to be in that commission,” he said.

His remarks come amid longstanding complaints by residents and businesses across Delta State over unreliable electricity supply and prolonged blackouts under the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), which distributes electricity across Delta and other states in its franchise area.

The electricity challenge has also featured in previous interventions by the Oborevwori administration, including plans to establish a state electricity regulatory commission, develop a state electricity market and encourage alternative power investments.

The Governor further disclosed that the electricity line linking Ughelli to Ozoro had been vandalised, explaining that the government had directed that repairs be carried out to ease the hardship faced by residents pending broader interventions.

“And also, for our people not to suffer, they vandalized the line from Ughelli to Ozoro here. And I said, for the meantime, that should be fixed, which is ongoing. I don’t know whether it has been completed,” he stated.

Oborevwori expressed confidence in the capacity of the person managing the repair intervention, praying for the successful completion of the work.

He added that his administration was also working towards achieving stable electricity supply across the state.

“We are also trying to make sure we have stable power in Delta State. We will do that by the grace of God,” the Governor said.

The remarks come against the backdrop of repeated complaints by communities in Isoko and other parts of Delta over poor electricity supply, with residents and businesses calling for lasting solutions to the problem.

In June 2026, the state government announced electricity infrastructure interventions in Isoko communities, including work on the power line serving the area and plans to rehabilitate the Emevor–Ozoro line. The government also identified the long-abandoned Ozoro 132KV substation as a strategic facility requiring attention.

While Oborevwori’s latest remarks indicate that the state government is pursuing regulatory and infrastructure measures, he did not announce a specific date for the commencement of the proposed commission or when residents should expect stable electricity supply across Delta State.
